We Did Some Redecorating

It is true that there are still a lot of other work to be done on the actual house, but our front room has been bothering me for a while. When you move into a new house it is to be expected that your stuff will not exactly fit in the house you are moving to. If you look at the picture below, you will see a few example of that. The biggest being the window treatments. These are the curtains from our Master Bedroom and, as you can see, there is only one on each window. Every evening we would slide the curtain across to cover the entire window.

Another item was the rug. It was a hand-me-down and is a perfectly fine rug (that has found a new home in The Master Bedroom) but it was long enough that when you came in the side door you couldn't help but step on the corner of it. With these slushy days, that corner of the rug did not stay for long.

We had some other issues to tackle, like storage and the fact that we still did not have a desk. In the end, and with the help of one of my favorite stores - Lowes - and my least favorite store - Wal Mart - I think we did okay.

Re-Do Before
Re-do Before

Re-Do After

Just a couple of things I would like to point out to you. Our window treatments. I love these shades because even when closed the light still shines in so you get some privacy without being closed off from the rest of the world. The Drapes are much lighter than the old ones too which helps lighten everything up.

The new rug. Comes in a variety of sizes so we bought one for under the kitchen table and a separate one for the front of the door, which will be much easier to clean.

The new buffet. This took some searching because the wall we wanted to put it on wasn't very long and we found that most of the ones we liked were too long for the spot. Wal-Mart to the rescue!

Ahhh, the toy storage.

A desk was also very important and, again, we had a weird sized space that we wanted to put it in. So, Wal-Mart to the rescue again! Jut like the buffet, we liked this because we can close it all up and everything is out of sight. This is the first room you walk into when you open the side-door so we wanted to make sure that it looked nice and that things should be put away.

All in all, I think it came out pretty good. There are still some final details that need to be done (notice there are not any pictures on the walls) and I kind of wish that the buffet and desk weren't so matchy-matchy but that is okay. I think with a little more accessorizing it will be perfect.
Stay tuned tomorrow for my accessory wish list:)
